| Cuts, assembles, glues, and sews components to bind books and boxes, according to specification, using automatic and manually operated machines, handtools, and equipment:
? Cut printed sheets to form book (body) block according to specification. ? Attaches endpapers to top and bottom of book body. ? Sews or stitches digital flat sheets and glue endpapers together along spine of book body, using sewing machine, or glues endpapers and flat sheet together along spine, using brush or glue machine. ? Compresses sewed or glued digital flat sheet to reduce book to required thickness, using handpress or smashing machine. ? Trims edges of book to size, using cutting or book trimming machine or hand cutter. ? Inserts book body in device that forms back edge of book into convex shape and produces grooves to facilitate attachment of cover. ? Applies glue to back of book, using brush or glue machine, and attaches cloth backing and headband. ? Applies color to edges of digital flat sheet, using brush, pad, or atomizer. Cuts binder board to specified dimension, using board shears, hand cutter, or cutting machine. ? Cuts cover material, such as leather or cloth, to specified dimensions and fits and glues material to binder board manually or by machine to make book case. ? Places bound book in press that exerts pressure on cover until glue dries. ? Imprint and emboss lettering, designs, or numbers on cover, using gold, silver, or colored foil and stamping machine. ? Pack, weigh, and stack books on pallet for shipment. ? Repairing and rebinding damaged or worn books for resale or reuse. ? Other jobs as assigned.
Skills & Attributes - Strong attention to detail - Consistency in book production quality and standards - Ability to organize and prioritize work and the ability to deal with interruptions and several tasks simultaneously - Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently and have the resourcefulness and ability to problem-solve - Proven initiative using common sense and good judgment as well as a positive attitude
Qualifications - Completion of high school, some college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training - One to two years experience in book binding - Fluent in English
Work hours - Work hours are 7:30 a. m. to 4:00 p.m. with lunch from 12:00 to 12:30 or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - May require to work additional hours if is required.
