Job Description:

This position offers a comprehensive benefits package which can be viewed at: www.hrs.ualberta.ca The Field Technician conducts field trials including seed set-up, seed treatment with chemicals, land preparation, and field note taking at several sites in Alberta.

Duties 
• Takes responsibility for conducting field trials for the Canola Breeding Program 
• Seeds, maintains and harvests plants in the field 
• Assists with sample preparation for seed quality analysis 
• Communicates with other public and private institutions dealing with canola breeding and research 
• Helps as necessary with greenhouse/lab operations for the Canola Breeding Program

Qualifications 
• Diploma in Agriculture or Plant sciences required; undergraduate degree in Agriculture or a related discipline will be considered 
• Minimum one year experience in a research environment; experience driving and using farm machinery (trucks, tractors, combines and pesticide sprayers) preferred 
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision 
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
