Sheridan Nurseries Propagation department is looking for a skilled individual who has a minimum experience of 5 years collecting, stratifying, and geminating shrub, tree and herbaceous seedlings. This individual will develop and maintain our seeding program while working in other areas of our propagation department over the year. Responsible to shadow a propagator with over 25 years of experience the applicant will learn the ins and outs of soft and hard wood propagation and be involved with expanding our top and bench grafting programs. An ideal candidate will have the following Horticultural education involving a diploma, degree or it’s equivalent 5 or more years experience collecting, stratifying, and geminating seed Experience with grafting techniques Good organization and communication skills Excellent and detailed record keeping skills Plant identification for woody ornamentals IPM experience and pesticide application certificate Understanding of the cultural requirements for plants during the propagation stage Greenhouse management skills Experience with Environmental control systems would be an asset HOURS OF WORK Because of the nature of our seasonal business, the applicant must be adaptable to long hours and weekend duties. WAGES Rate to be based on qualifications, work performance and/or experience, all of which will be assessed individually.
